Last night Kate Bosworth, Emma Watson, Roisin Murphy, Daphne Guinness and James Brown arrived at Harvey Nichols in London, for a dinner to celebrate the Rodarte design sisters who were in town. Co-hosted by Kate, who looked stunning in a lace and leather S/S '09 Rodarte dress and Nicholas Kirkwood heels, the 5th floor restaurant in Harvey Nichols was dressed with a long white table, sitting 50, and gorgeous white sweet peas (which were later given to guests to take home). The girls mingled through the crowd and chatted to old friends and new. Nicholas Kirkwood, who designs their catwalk shoes, joined the party and chatted animatedly about the girls, Kate and Laura Mulleavy, who he designed those thigh-high boots for. ‘We didn't even meet the first few seasons that we worked together,' he told us exclusively. ‘Everything was over the phone and email. It was so great when we finally met. We get on so well and are on the same wave length. They always want to do something different - we've even made shoes out of electrical wire!' And turns out the feeling is mutual, with Kate Mulleavy joking that they think Nicholas is their long-lost brother!
Rodarte has a massive celebrity following, with Keira Knightley, Reese Witherspoon, Kirsten Dunst and Milla Jovovich all fans of their designs. But an early supporter was Dasha Zhukova, who was recently announced as the new Editor-in-Chief of POP magazine. The appointment shocked some people, who questioned Dasha's lack of editorial experience, but Kate and Laura think that it's an inspired choice. ‘People doubted us too when we started. We were from LA - which was frowned upon - we didn't go to fashion college, we had no formal training in design, but we proved them wrong. It's interesting because you don't often see big style magazines change editorships, but it happens all the time at fashion houses, so why not? Dasha is super smart and knows so much about art, she's a really interesting person. She has supported us from the beginning and we really respect her. We look forward to seeing what she does.'
With the dinner finished and the midnight hour calling, the final guests headed for home - all except Rodarte, Kate Bosworth and Nicholas Kirkwood, who headed out and onto another club. Talent, humour and party stamina - Rodarte are our kind of girls!
