We missed Freida Pinto in Cannes. The starlet had been due to attend but was hard at work filming her latest movie Miral in Jerusalem. So we decided to revisit one of her finest red carpet moments – at the Chanel A/W '09 show in Paris last October – and catch up to chat all things Chanel. ‘I've been wearing Chanel for a long time, actually since Slumdog Millionaire started,' she says of her relationship with the fashion house. ‘In fact, the reason why I feel so connected with Chanel is because my first ever red carpet event was at the Toronto film festival and I was wearing a beautiful Chanel dress, and had Chanel make-up on and Chanel shoes! There was this lovely PR, Marielou, in India who always believed in me and she said, "You look so lovely in Chanel", and so I chose this beautiful dark blue dress with a black bow. You can find the perfect Chanel piece for every age, and I found something that was suitable for my age.' And what did she make of the show – only her second, after gracing the Dolce & Gabbana front row in Milan? ‘It was wonderful, it was not just sitting there watching clothes and beautiful girls. I love the green and pink, the green especially because Karl just told me it's the colour of hope and I can kind of draw a connection with the Slumdog movie because that gives you hope as well.' Sounds like Freida took meeting the fashion legend that is Karl Lagerfeld in her stride, then. ‘I said to him, "You know, Karl, the first time I met you was always going to be a very intimidating experience because you have created so many wonderful things and you're just so talented." But you know he is one of the most down-to-earth people ever. He is a very humble man and really fun. I mean he's a child at heart, that's exactly what makes it fresh all the time.' The love is mutual, according to Karl. ‘Freida is a very good actress and a gorgeous young woman, but her greatest quality is her warm spontaneity, which seduces everyone. Her smile is irresistible and her charm is electrifying.' Well said, Karl. Now can you please come out of hiding, Freida? We're missing your glamour!
