Dolce & Gabbana talk first impressions – of each other!

Dolce & Gabbana

They've worked together for over 20 years to create one of the world's most powerful fashion houses, so we guess there's nothing wrong with Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana sharing some home truths about their first impressions of each other now. ‘I thought he was a monster,' Gabbana says of his business partner. ‘Seriously, he was such a fashion victim. He looked like a priest, all dressed in black with that white skin and a shaved head. It wasn't very impressive.' As for Dolce's retort? ‘Stefano was very Milanese, with his long hair and Lacoste T-shirt.' Luckily for the fashion world, they got over their original prejudices and started a 20-year-love affair that even saw them fantasise about adopting and a business that was so strong it would last even after they split up. ‘Professionally, we are still partners and we still love each other with that big love now. Domenico is part of my life, but he has a boyfriend and I have a boyfriend,' says Gabbana. ‘At the beginning it was problematic, but now we want to be an example to people because it's not just gay couples who break up and it should be possible to have a good relationship afterwards,' reiterates Dolce. Indeed it is, judging by the legendary parties the pair throw every year in Cannes – and the A-listers who flock to them. They've dressed pretty much every woman in the world – Scarlett, Beyoncé, Madonna and VB – and are currently loving the new generation of London ‘It' kids, Peaches and Alice Dellal. In fact, they're so well supported in the glittering world of stars, they must be the only designers not clamouring to dress Michelle Obama. ‘We don't do politics.' Got it. [Telegraph]
