Chanel comes to Cannes…

penelope cruz

Nope, we're not talking about dressing the stars on the red carpet for once. The closing film at this year's Cannes Film Festival is Coco Chanel & Igor Stravinsky – about the legendary designer's supposed love affair with the Russian composer, starring Anna Mouglalis, who is also the current face of Chanel's fine jewellery. Karl Lagerfeld is said to have created at least two outfits for the film, including an awesome evening gown, but it won't be the first time Chanel clothes have been seen on screen at the Festival. Yesterday, Pedro Almodóvar's new flick with Penélope Cruz Broken Embraces was shown. She plays an actress named Lena who drives men dangerously wild with desire (hmm, does she have to act?) – no doubt partly thanks to her Chanel wardrobe. To kit Miss Cruz out, the film makers delved into Chanel's current and past collections, drawing on hundreds of different pieces created by Karl Lagerfeld over the past 14 years. There are iconic sheath dresses, navy blue knitted suits, quilted 2.55 bags and some classic Chanel earrings. It makes for a stunning movie. Our only complaint? That Penéope Cruz wore a Marchesa gown on the red carpet rather than following the Chanel theme. Still, there are many more premieres to come...
