Ever since we saw paparazzi pictures of Nicole Kidman and Daniel Day-Lewis filming in Rome – her in an evening dress and trilby, him in an open-top sports car – we have been obsessed with the forthcoming film, Nine. Then followed the spoilers: Dolce & Gabbana star as priests, Black Eyed Pea Fergie has a cameo, IT'S A MUSICAL, and it stars almost every Oscar-winner worth your cinema ticket – Daniel Day-Lewis, Nicole Kidman, Judi Dench, Penélope Cruz, Marion Cotillard, Sophia Loren. From the director of Chicago (the film that brought big-screen musicals back to life), Nine is inspired by the Federico Fellini film 8 ½, and follows the life of film director Guido Contini (Lewis) as he struggles with all the women in his life – his wife, muse, confidante, mistress and even his dead mother. Yes, yes, it sounds great already, but wait until you watch this trailer. AMAZING, yes?
The music, the costumes, the dancing, the Italian drama, Judi Dench's wig, Kate Hudson, Sophia Loren... how can we wait until 27 November for the film premiere? They wave a film gem in front of us, only to snatch it away... but without wanting to sound overly dramatic, by God does this film look like one worth waiting for.
