After the news of Jil Sander at Uniqlo and Ann-Sofie Back at Cheap Monday, the Brits are homing in on the catwalk-designer-heads-up-affordable-label trend. When we rocked up at the Monsoon autumn-winter press day we expected to see embellished cardigans, a maxidress or two and a whole lot of embroidery, all executed with the colourful handwriting we know and love. What we weren't expecting were sleek trend-led pieces and simple statements in graphic prints. Why the change of direction? Simple, there's a new designer in charge and her name is... Tracey Boyd!
Ms Boyd, once the darling of feminine British fashion, is leading the design team and giving Monsoon a fresh fashion-forward spin. The line has become more modern with a fitted silhouette and subtle nods to catwalk trends. While the Ivana Trump shoulder hasn't yet filtered through, we saw exposed zips, scallop edges, graphic-print silk shift dresses and one of the best faux-furs on the high street. Even better, the price point is especially chiconomic, which means instead of one gorgeous green silk pocket dress, you can have two!
