Agyness Deyn’s new high-street campaign!

Wow! Agyness Deyn is so huge she barely even walks the catwalk these days – and when she does it's for best mate Henry Holland or brands like Anna Sui. As for her ad campaigns: they include everything from Burberry to Jean Paul Gaultier. But it looks like the British supermodel hasn't forgotten her roots on the good old high street. She's just become the new face of Uniqlo's high-summer sports range. ‘Agyness reflects a fresh, youthful and vibrant side of life, which was perfect for the campaign,' says head of press and marketing Amy Howarth of the collection, which launches on 1 June. Now, we've always loved Uniqlo for their colour-pop basics and cheap cashmere fixes, but in recent months it seems the Japanese brand just keeps getting cooler and cooler. They've collaborated with designers du jour Phillip Lim and Alexander Wang, bagged the legendary Jil Sander as their new creative consultant – and now Agyness is their leading lady. We're in heaven. Oh, other than the fact we can't for love nor money get our hands on their gorgeous, we've-wanted-forever pink skinny jeans... [WWD]

  • Ooohh I love Uniqlo! It's so cool! My husband who is Japanese, said it's kind of like the Japanese version of Primark, so it's really good for throway fashion. I love their cashmere cardis in Winter and their heat teach tops. Pure genius!

  • Oops, sorry, I meant heat tech!

  • After reading your comment above I was confused by how you have used the term 'throwaway fashion', can you explain to me what you mean by this? You seem to use it with total disregard for what it actually implies. If you see this as a good thing then I would suggest that you should start reading up on why your clothes are so cheap!

  • If you were intelligent enough to read my comment properly, you would've seen that by throwaway fashion I meant basics such as camisoles, socks, staple wardrobe items etc! My clothes are not cheap and I do not do all my shopping in Uniqlo, just basics as I said! I hate Primark, but if you read my comment properly, as I said, you'll see that I did not make the comparison! How dare you feel you have the right to personally attack people on here! You obviously have insecurities.

  • Bad comment 'ava1'. That was totally unnecessary, unfounded and a dig at someone who was just stating their opinion. Grazia-you should remove ava1's comment as it is a hurtful thing to say and very very low.

  • AVA1: before bullying other people, take a look in the mirror. you are ugly on the inside.

  • What is the world coming to today when people are malicious for no reason whatsoever? Ava1 your argument did not make sense. You could have just left it at the 'misuse of throwaway fashion' argument; why oh why on earth did you have to make uncalled for assumptions about Amelie's wardrobe??! What is wrong with you?
    Sophyosei
  • im not sure whether ava meant 'cheap' to be mean or whether she meant it in regards to cheap labour/the production of clothes in developing countries. but however she meant it, she should have used her brain and rephrased it so as not to sound so spiteful!!!

  • It seems that 'Ameliee' meant 'throwaway fashion' in a lighthearted manner! So I don't see why you felt the need ava1 to turn the discussion about Uniqlo into one of such seriousness and coldheartedness! The main premise of commenting on Grazia.co.uk is for people to make lighthearted comments on fashion, as Ameliee did. So let us all be and don't be such a stickler!

  • I agree with Sophyosei and most of the other people above (except Ava). And may I add that the Grazia editors need to do something about people who make unwarranted comments directly to other Grazia users, which makes Grazia an unpleasant place to be!!

  • I'm not the biggest fan of Agy but absolutely adore how she looks in her little pink outfit. Stunning.

  • Love Uniqlo. Their ad campaigns are just brilliant. I particularly liked the slogan t.shirt one they did a few months back with the fabulous Chloe Sevigny.
what a great brand and totally agree that its the place to go and get all your basics!

  • i was thinking of leaving grazia for a while now and now this has confirmed it. when i see people being cruel (such as ava1 above) it breaks my heart to see it. and how people, including grazia themselves, don't do anything about it to combat such inacceptable behaviour. it is sad that people can stoop to that level these days.

  • I agree Splash, a great store for your little cashmere mix cardis (I have three) and cotton camis.
    PS Play nicely ladies!

  • Love Uniqlo- their clothes are affordable, the quality is good & their sales are great for picking up bargains. Shame they don't have a branch in my neck of the woods (they seem to be perpetually confined to London).
    Ava1, SHAME ON YOU!!!

  • I wasn't being spiteful to Ameliee or Uniqlo(which I love)at all but was looking to get people thinking about why clothes are so cheap in shops such as Primark and why 'throwaway fashion' is a bad thing. Child labour, unfair wages, living conditions and over manufacuring and over use of resources is damaging people and our planet. I love fashion more than anyone but would love to see a change in how we choose it and go for quality over quantity and disposeable fashion.
I certainly do have a brain and think that a fashion magazine should be a place for discussing the issues of fashion as well as commenting on pretty things.

  • There s no stopping Agy these days! I guess, she ll milk it like there s no tomorrow. Literally! She s very edgy, quirky, sexy, contemporary, the list can go on and on.. She s got the right friends (Henry Holland) and she s just the model du jour. Uniqlo are high street but far from drab and boring. They are what Agy is and they ve snatched her at the right time! I think it s a winning collaboration. Without being disresptful in any way, can you see Linda, Claudia or Cindy modelling for Uniqlo any time soon? Cos I cant! Sorry girls, I am a huge of yours. Honestly.
