Five minutes with: Felder Felder

When super-cool model Erin Wasson arrived in London for fashion week in February, she was really excited about seeing young British talent. And top of her hit list was hot fashion label Felder Felder. It isn't surprising really, after all they count Gwyneth Paltrow among their fans and were nominated for a British Fashion Award in 2008. Since starting their eponymous label whilst studying at Central Saint Martins just over two years ago, German twins Annette and Daniela Felder have come a pretty long way. So, with their continuing success down at Browns Focus, we figured it was about time for a catch-up. Here's their take on Iggy Pop, the Olsens, and why you might soon be seeing your granny dressed in leather...

On being twins...
It didn't really affect our style that much, because we both always dressed differently to other people anyway. We've always both loved vintage clothes and putting our own stamp on things, and what's great about working with your sister is that you don't have to be afraid of saying what you think. Out of every argument we have comes something creative. It's all about two elements complementing each other and working in harmony.

On musical inspiration...
We can't really imagine what would happen if we didn't have music playing in our design studio... Probably a collection full of pastels and florals! Every single season we're inspired by iconic musical moments, like Iggy Pop or Woodstock, and a lot of our aesthetic is about rock chick attitude.

On a Topshop collaboration...
Never say never! Getting the New Gen sponsorship was such a big deal for us and even though Felder Felder as a brand isn't ever going to have mass market appeal, the Topshop customer is the right sort of girl for us. It would be great to think that a 15-year-old who can't afford a Felder Felder dress right now was able to access a little piece of what we're about through a high-street collaboration.

On the Felder Felder woman...
The Felder Felder woman can be anything from 15 to 85. It doesn't matter how old you are, because we design for someone with attitude. And a lot of people say that when they put on our clothes it brings out something that's been lying dormant inside...

On which A-lister they want to dress...
We're huge fans of Selma Blair and this British actress Annabelle Wallis, but we LOVE Mary-Kate Olsen! She just embodies the Felder Felder ideal. And we'd love to dress Liv Tyler as well. Every time we see her we just want to lift her out of what she's wearing and put her in our clothes to see what would happen. Oh, and Kate Moss, of course. We'd love to see Kate Moss in Felder Felder. She's the ultimate pin-up.

On the future...
One of our ambitions is to design shoes – we're huge fans of Nicholas Kirkwood – but for the next few seasons it would have to be a collaborative effort so we can keep focused on the clothes. And what's most important is longevity because we can still see ourselves designing clothes when we're 60 years old. For us, Felder Felder is for life.
