Matthew Williamson talks H&M – take two!

In the past few weeks, we've spotted more Matthew Williamson for H&M cropped leather jackets than we can count. (Not because our maths is bad, by the way). And that's not including the umpteen Hollywood A-listers touting their new MW4HM goodies either. So seeing as the second collection is due to hit stores this Thursday 14 May (yep, that's two days you've got to plan your 'emergency doctor's appointments', people) we caught up with the man himself to see just how he was dealing with Matthew-mania: ‘I was still overwhelmed by the public's reaction to my first collection in April, and I'm even more excited to see the response to the second collection, as it includes my first ever men's pieces.' Yep that's right. We've got our beady eyes on the £79.99 embellished waistcoat, the turquoise jeans costing just £39.99, and the gorgeous tiered maxi dress which comes in at £199.99. But seeing as there are men's pieces on offer this time round, we reckon it's totally fine to send your boyfriend to stand in the queue... Oh, and in case you've been wondering about that H&M advert we thought we'd ask Matthew about the concept behind that, too. ‘The commercial was shot in the middle of the night on Copacabana beach in Rio,' he told us. ‘The concept was very tongue in cheek, with a real surreal edge to the imagery and soundtrack. Basically it shows girls unsatisfied with their constrained, dull lives and wanting a change, which comes in the shape of my H&M collection!' It's certainly brightening up our wardrobe...

  • Just been to H & M on Regent Street to have a look at M W's men range. I would not call it disappointing cos that s a strong word to use but i d say its a bit predictable. Dont get me wrong, there was colour, summery patterns and nice shapes but i think it was missing the element of surprise a collection like that needs. I wondered around the upper level in the shop time and time again trying to convince myself to actually buy something. I really could not find anything really original that stood out. Call me fussy. May be. Demanding. Well yes. Or may be eclectic and selective. I am that too. Good luck to Mr. Williamson not that he needs it.. I ll go again in a couple of days time to see if i still find the clothes range the same..
