Exclusive! On the set of Material Girl

12 May 2009

If you go down to East London today, you're sure of a fashion surprise. Nestled away among the jeggings-clad hipster kids, an explosion of sequins and brights is taking over Wilton's Music Hall where an elaborately-dressed cast are filming a scene for the BBC's new fashion-focused comedy drama, Material Girl. The series stars Being Human's Leonora Critchlow as Ali, a young designer struggling to make a name for herself. While Dervla Kirwan (who's Mrs Rupert Penry-Jones in real life, lucky thing) plays her nemesis: fashion doyenne Davina Bailey. Grazia visited the set this morning for an exclusive sneak peek, and can reveal that Dervla was rocking some seriously Balmain-esque shoulders. 'I LOVE Grazia,' she squealed when we met: 'I buy it every week!' We also chatted to the lovely Alex Zane, who was very pleased with his Topman suit. 'It's exactly like the slim-fit suits Dior Homme used to do,' he told us. 'You can't get them any more.' Oh Alex, we love a man whose fashion knowledge can rival our own. Keep reading Grazia for a full behind-the-scenes report with lots of amazing pictures when the show hits our screens in August.
