We've been wondering how 'It Brit' Alexa Chung has been coping Stateside since her move there to host an MTV show. There've been no paparazzi shots (don't those Americans know we have to analyse her style on a daily basis?) and no DJ stints at Bungalow 8 to keep us informed, so thank goodness for Alexa herself. She's penned her thoughts on her New York life – and it looks like she's off to a somewhat shaky start. First off, the oversized windows in her loft apartment are letting in so much light that she's waking up at 6am, which means she's having to learn how to do proper grown-up chores, like order custom-made blinds. Then the rain is ruining her Les Chiffoniers leather trousers and fake fur coats, and she's baffled by New Yorkers wearing clogs and wellies to pound the streets (we're with you on that one, Alexa....). What's more, she can't cope with the small dogs prevalent in her apartment block – they make her feel nervous, like she's about to step on them accidentally. And, finally, she hasn't managed to mix with any real Americans yet, as she's been busy hanging out with Londoners at Jamie Hince's gigs. Ah, Alexa – it's hard settling into a new city and we feel for you, we really do. But any time you want to switch places, just give us a call, OK? [Independent]
