Is this the most exciting partnership since Jil Sander announced she and Uniqlo were to become bedfellows? Swedish fashion designer and champion of a little bit of gothic humour on the catwalk, Ann-Sofie Back has been revealed as the new creative director of Cheap Monday. Cheap Monday has always been our go-to label for easy, low-cost, low-maintenance, care-free cool denim (which will still remain under the design care of founder Orjan Andersson), but now with Back taking over the rest of the ready-to-wear areas, we are clearing even more space in our wardrobes for, what will no doubt be, her cool separates and a-little-bit-bonkers womenswear.
Back, who also worked as a designer for Acne before launching her synonymous label, has been in London for 10 years, but is moving back to Stockholm for the job, and who can blame her?! ‘The opportunity to design for a global and popular brand such as Cheap Monday is both a privilege and a challenge - it's only my second day and my head is buzzing!' she told Graziadaily exclusively. ‘I think we both have a lot to learn from each other and I hope I can live up to the confidence that they have in me.'
But while we can't wait to see what she creates for Cheap Monday, we're glad that we're still going to get our fill of Ann-Sofie Back at London Fashion Week... call us selfish if you like!
