Guess how much Matthew Williamson for H&M is going for on eBay?

We're not really sure how we feel about the hoards of shoppers who stampede the high street for the latest designer collaboration, only to promptly put it all on eBay. On the one hand it's a chance for people to get a slice of the action if they couldn't book an, ahem, doctor's appointment, the morning the collection hit. But on the other, it's crazy how much money these supermarket sweep style shoppers can make. Take a look at how much the Matthew Williamson for H&M collection is going for on eBay. The pink silk tulip dress is going for £120 (originally £69.99), the studded belt is going for £99.99, and the feather cardigan for £80. But top of the list is the peacock dress worn by Nicky Hilton, Katy Perry and Mischa Barton. Originally priced at £49.99, it had already sold out by the time we left the Regent Street store last week, but we've just spotted it on sale for a whopping £224.99 on eBay. You do the fashion maths!

  • Out of interest, this morning I checked ebay and Barbara Hulanicki's Topshop items were already listed. I'm not even a bitter loser on this one (I got the orange leopard print dress I wanted!) but just think it's pretty mean spirited, not to mention tarnishing the idea of these collections being high fashion for lowlier bank balances.

  • Its really h&ms doing, making the items in such limited numbers and availability. Its all about promoting the store and certainly not 'making designer fashion accessable' as we keep being told! I think they encorage it as it creates demand for the items. I really would have liked a peacock dress but they were only available in London. So if I wanted the dress my options would have been pay to travel and stay over in London, and que for hours in the hope I just might get a dress or pay a few extra quid on ebay. Im kinda on the fence with this debate!

  • The Matthew Williamson collection for H&M is nothing but mass produced tat!
Not one piece can hold a candle to his mainline collection.
H&M limiting the supply to specific stores, manufactured celeb endorsements, magazine editorials and a PR machine in full effect is responsible for the impressionable 'fashionista' who feels getting hold of this 'most wanted' collection is so important.
As for queuing up from 6am to buy this uninspired collection...completely unfathomable!

  • I can't stand the fact that people go to the shops buy up as much as they can just to sell it on for inflated prices on e-bay. Even if I really wanted a dress from these collections I wouldn't on principal part with my cash!
Its a bit of a horrible thing to do and to be honest the clothes aren't worth spending this kind of money on.
