Revealed: the Marc Jacobs proposal story

27 April 2009

Marc Jacobs and Lorenzo Martone

Spare a thought for Lorenzo Martone. As if planning a normal proposal isn't nerve-racking enough, he was asking fashion designer and renowned perfectionist Marc Jacobs to marry him. So it had to be perfect. Lorenzo tracked down two pink-gold triple banded rings at Marc's favourite jeweller, Boucheron, before the Louis Vuitton show at Paris Fashion Week and popped the question over an intimate dinner at New York's Mercer Hotel. 'That's an iconic place for us, you know? Marc lived there for ten years,' Lorenzo revealed. ‘When I proposed, the rings came with our starters in the restaurant.' Bless! So, freshly engaged, the pair headed off to meet his parents in Brazil. ‘It went very well. He met my entire family – mom, dad, brother, grandmother. Everyone adored him. Like they should, right?' Right, Lorenzo. So the only questions that remain on fashion's latest love affair is the date – not set yet, but they're thinking December in St Barts would be lovely – and what's on their wedding list. And it seems, competition for the best gift is apparently heating up. ‘I'm not saying what I'm really going to get them – then it would ruin the surprise!' Kerry Washington has spilled. ‘If I could get him anything in the world, it would be a private jet so they could jet around all around the world to have fittings in the world with all the girls, stress-free!' Nice. [NY Magazine, Fashion Week Daily]
