At the Topshop press day last week, as we rifled through their Grunge meets Horror Film trend rail with its bleeding poppy prints and 'Curse of Frankenstein' cut-off T-shirts, we had it confirmed that Scottish designer Christopher Kane has signed to do his biggest collection yet with the retailer. Previously, Kane, who is still just 26, produced a collection for Topshop after the success of his first collection in Spring/Summer 2007. And the new collection, not set for release until late August this year is already causing much excitement with the people over at Topshop. In fact, the senior Topshop team could speak of little else when we bumped into them. 'It's totally different to what we expected, and so so good,' said one. Well, we just had to get on the phone to Christopher Kane. When we tracked him down he was trying to think up an alternative holiday plan. ‘I've just been forced to cancel my long-awaited holiday to Tulum in Mexico due to the Swine Flu,' he told us. As for his new Topshop range, he's excited. ‘This is more than a capsule collection. It's proper: with bags, shoes, knitwear and dresses. It's nothing like any other work I've done in the past. Everything is a bit "wow". But If I tell you any more, I'll be giving the theme away.' Oh, he is a one that Mr Kane. We press him for more... ‘OK. There might be some colour, some embellishment. It's full of surprises. Put it this way we did the designs, sent away our drawings and when the samples came back last week they looked brilliant. Girls are gonna go crazy for it!' Judging by the reactions by everyone concerned, we can't wait for this range to arrive.
