Londoners made their thoughts on the Matthew Williamson for H&M very clear. Shelves were swiped clear within three minutes of the London Regent Street store opening and the competition was even fiercer in Manchester to pick up a peacock printed dress. Five hours later New York followed suit, with women who'd been queuing since 10pm the previous night spending their last unemployment cheques on the blue blazers. (Call us maternal but we're a bit worried it won't keep them warm enough when they can't afford the heating bill this winter...) But the fashion frenzy didn't reach all corners of the globe. Shoppers in Tokyo gathered only 15 minutes before the shop opened and the Parisians were oh-so-nonchalant about H&M's latest designer collaboration. ‘I'm not sure that Matthew Williamson is really well-known by the public,' one shopper said as the modest crowd walked leisurely down the escalator. What? You're not constantly updating your RSS feeds to analyse the latest outfits on Sienna, Mischa and co? You haven't spent almost five months almost stalking Matthew around the world for details of the shoot/clothes/model/advert? Wrong. Well, at least we know where we're going to shop for the Angela Missoni for H&M collection if it ever – God help us – comes off... [WWD, NY Magazine]
