Oh Alexa. We totally get what you're going through. In preparation for a big change – in Miss Chung's case relocating from London to New York – you treat yourself to a new look. It's meant to make you feel sparkly and fresh but, as Alexa found out when she chopped her ‘mid-length nothingness to a sharp fringeless bob', instead you often suddenly find yourself going through a sort of mini style crisis. ‘I was dismayed to discover I had nothing to wear. Or rather, none of my clothes matched my head. This makes me miserable. Every morning I sulk my way through a rail of smock dresses and oversized T-shirts,' she writes. ‘The real challenge now is finding ways to maintain an essence of sex appeal whilst sporting the haircut of a 12-year-old boy in the '90s (more commonly known as "curtains"), maybe it's not that short but it's certainly not far from Joan of Arc's jaw-length mop.' Her solution – and introducing a whole new look for Alexa Chung – is to turn to skin-tight sex-appeal clothes, a far cry from the tomboy style she's made her own. Still, a new job in New York demands a whole new style, some might say. And before you start to feel too sorry for Alexa, take note of her strategy for preparing for a big event (her leaving party perhaps?) she's attending before she leaves the capital. ‘This is a very serious and tactical task. I found a beautiful grey suit from Chloé I wanted to wear, but apparently Keira Knightley has already worn it. This happens to me a lot.' [Independent]
