Way back in the day Michelle Obama sparked sweater-gate by wearing a cardigan over her Narciso Rodriguez victory dress on the night her husband was voted into power. (It was November and chilly, she's since explained). Last week in London it turned into cardi-gate as she threw an Alaia cardigan over her Isabel Toledo dress to meet the Queen. ‘You don't go to Buckingham Palace in a sweater,' Oscar de la Renta apparently said. (Hmm, jealous much?) And something tells us that if Barack has anything to do with it the Prague leg of Michelle's European fashion tour might become known as belt-gate. The First Lady stepped out yesterday wearing her favourite Azzedine Alaia belt over her Moschino shirt – again. It's the third time she's worn the belt this week. The belt Barack refers to as the ‘Star Trek' belt, remember. And that she normally avoids wearing in front of him to save herself from her husband's withering looks. Michelle – we salute you. He might be the most powerful man in the world but Barack clearly doesn't know fashion.
