Is Manish Arora one of the busiest men in fashion? It seems so. The Indian-based designer not only has make-up, Nivea, sunglasses and Reebok collaborations under his belt (as well as many others that we can't mention yet), but he is also a really busy bee for Swarovski, with whom he's been collaborating for six years.
We joined him yesterday in a very plush, and of course sparkly, Swarovski Crystallized lounge for the launch of his Crystallized project. Models stalked the room to show off his latest crystal embellished T-shirts, inspired by Hindu symbolism. Featuring Lakshmi – the goddess of beauty and luck and bringer of wealth and spiritual well-being; Ganesh, the elephant god and lord of beginnings, change, wisdom and learning; and Nandi the bull, signifier of calm and nourishment.
Nadja Swarovski told us that Lakshmi is a particular favourite of hers because ‘she has 12 arms, which is exactly what I need!' While Manish has already confirmed that he wants to do a jewellery line with Swarovski too. They said next year, but he said that he is ready to start it now!
Manish used to show his bright creations in London, but has moved to Paris. ‘London was always so supportive of me,' he told us. ‘But to become a global brand you have to be in Paris.' Does that mean that menswear and perfume is on the cards? ‘I will do a little bit of menswear – just bright shirts, but I won't do a full line. Perfume is definitely a possibility, though!' Expect to see a glorious crystallized perfume bottle in the shape of an elephant soon.
