Anya’s handbag heaven

When Anya Hindmarch unveils her new collection it's always a fabulous affair, and yesterday was no exception. The Grazia girls headed down to 'Cosy up at home with Anya' at Anya HQ where her showroom had been transformed into an intimate living room, complete with fire and large velvet sofa where visitors could relax and take in the gorgeous new A/W ’09 collection. Delicious homemade biscuits (Anya's mother's recipe) and tea were offered around, and after swooning over the new collection Anya's guests could enjoy a good pampering in her beauty room, where fashionistas were being groomed to within an inch of their lives with manicures and eyebrow threading. But after a good pruning (and stuffing with biscuits) we got down to the subject at hand – bags. After all, now that the 'It' bag is dead, what's next? 'I've always been against them,' revealed Anya, whose A-list fans include Angelina Jolie. 'I'm much more interested in offering great style and attention to detail.' Which couldn't be more on the money for this collection – like the chain strap on the Maddock bag, which has beautiful leather inserts, and the Nadja clutch, which is reversible (leather on one side, suede on the other). 'But my current obsession,' Anya explains, 'is the new "Handsfree" bag.' Not surprising, really, considering it's full of clever little compartments that are all labelled to keep you super-organised: a pocket for your phone, coins, keys (everything you can think of). And not only can you wear it across your body, you can also unclip the strap and pop it into a larger handbag, keeping everything totally in order! No more scrambling for house keys and iPods? We're sold! And as if we weren't in high enough spirits already, as we headed out the door (nails gleaming and eyebrows perfectly arched) Anya's girls armed us with retro pick'n'mix sweets, printed recipe cards for the homemade biscuits and the cutest packets of tea you've ever seen! We really could get used to this!
