She’s known for showing her thriftiness. And seems to be determined to prove there’s more to her role as First Lady than just fashion. So no wonder Michelle Obama’s been recycling her new fashion purchase: a plastic Sonia Rykiel belt. She first wore it over a Michael Kors dress for the cover of O magazine and then re-wore it over a new-season Liz Claiborne shirt this weekend. We know what it’s like, Michelle. When you buy something you love you just want to wear it, like, every day. We only wish it was another Jason Wu dress maybe, or a Dior bag. Rather than this belt. Still, we totally love the words that accompany the pictures in O magazine, where Michelle dishes on how the First family are coping in the White House.
Oprah: 'So after the inauguration, what was your first weekend in the White House like?'
Michelle: 'Well, we still had family here, so it was almost like a wedding. A huge, very complicated wedding. The last visitors didn’t leave until Sunday. And then the first Monday was kind of weird. You know: “Now we live here, and Barack is getting up and going to work, and it’s just us. This is our home now.”'
Oprah: ‘How will the decorating style change?’
Michelle: ‘It will reflect our family. I want comfortable sofas, I want art that reflects contemporary and traditional, I want to bring in new American artisans. And we want approachable comfort.’
Oprah: ‘So you can take off your shoes…’
Michelle: ‘And you’ve got to be able to make a fort with the sofa pillows! Everything must be fort-worthy!
