Beth Ditto on fashion anarchy

beth ditto

Beth Ditto likes to make us think. First, appearing on the cover of LOVE magazine totally naked and now attending the shows in Paris and looking as curvy and fabulous as possible. She's been at Jeremy Scott, Loewe, Lagerfeld, rocking a rather fabulous dress by one of her favourite designers, Charles Anastase. Why? Well she loves fashion, she tells us, so that's why. She's always got something to say. And for Grazia only, she has news of her fashion line for Evans. ‘Oh I'm loving doing it. Its been such a fun project. Aren't you coming to New York to see me do my campaign?' she asked. That is the plan, we tell her... Then Beth tells us that she is loving seeing all the activists in the Paris streets. Student protesters campaigning against their university building being sold off. And the fur protesters that are at almost every show, causing the fur-wearing fashion-press to practically run past the protesters to avoid getting egged! It seems Beth approves. ‘Activism is so important, don't you think?' says Beth. ‘I don't want to be judgemental, but we need to start making a difference.' Let's hope no one turns up wearing fur at the Fendi store opening this week, where Beth Ditto is DJing. Now, given that's the slot filled by Karl's muse at the time, Amy Winehouse, last season, we reckon Beth's fashion influence might be about to spread even further...

  • I have such a problem with her, she is not "curvy" she's overweight and I wish people would stop celebrating it...

  • I agree. Why do we describe people that are obviously overweight as 'curvy'? In a society that is constantly getting bigger this is as damaging to young girls as saying size 0 is the ideal.

  • you guys need to chill out - beth is a big girl, "over" what you say should be her natural weight. but she is happy with herself, and its obvious she is naturally big and curvy. we are not celebrating her size per se, but WE ARE celebrating the fact she is happy with who she is. And THAT SHE IS HAPPY IN HER SKIN is the most enlightened and important message to promote and share with young girls . MR

  • Ditto to Beth's weight. The woman is not curvy. Its called too much fried chicken and some seriously straining arteries. Full stop. Nonetheless, I count myself a fan. Not just because of her kick ass voice and her musical literacy but because she she has the guts to wear it, work it and generally gives the impression she doesn't give a dumpling about what the rest of us think. And let's face it, in the world of It-bags and globalised trends, this is something to rejoice. Thank you Miss Ditto. You are anything but.

  • I'm a huge Beth Ditto fan (no pun intended!) She is one very talented lady musically and I love the way she is bucking the trend of size zero.
She also needs to be applauded for her strong stance on fur. Good for her.
