NME Awards 2009: battle of the best-dressed
London Fashion Week might be over for another season, but don't make the mistake of thinking there's any let-up in the frock wars. Music's finest got their fashion on last night for the NME Awards 2009 at London's Brixton Academy, which saw MGMT taking home the gong for Best New Band, and (in true Brit music style) displaying a little bit of bad behaviour. But back to the red carpet catwalk. We spotted Nicola and Sarah Girls Aloud doing rock chick in a black Preen number and stripy ensemble, Little Boots shimmering in Matthew Williamson, Emilia Fox working a chic biker jacket and Peaches rocking up with – shock horror! – the same bag she's been toting all around LFW. Think Sarah Harding is looking a little dodgy of late.....
fashionrat - On Girls Aloud: Nicola is the new more fashion-friendly Cheryl, but Sarah Harding looks like she has escaped from prison - what is with that length, that shape, those stripes? Anyone?

I agree with 'lovesit', I much prefer Nicolas style (and entire demeaner) to Cheryls. Sarah.. dear lord no. You are not Angyness Dene.
twinkles1988 - Alexa Chung, now that's a style crush. I simply love the way she looks and it all seems so effortless and it always just works.
Nicola is definitely having a moment and kudos to her for finally getting rid of that fake tan habit. Trust me, fake bake much more addictive then nicotine.
Dress aside what is going on with Sarah's make-up? I cannot believe how much she slaps on. Is Jodie Marsh her style icon?
splash - Alexa Chung is fabulous! She always looks great! Sarah looks, well, like she's wearing a long stripey sparkly sack! And her make up isn't great! I like Little Boots, that dress looks awesome!
samirox2200 - Umm, not going to shout about this too loudly but I actually like what Peaches is wearing here.

disco - Is it just me or are there some truly dreadful clothes on display here? Jaime Winstone seems to have a dead crow strangling her, while Sarah Harding's turned up in a stripy grocery bag.The only one who's really got it right for me is Little Boots.
Jen13 - jen13...i couldnt agree more, i love jamie w but vulture chic is not really my bag. Little Boots looks v.cool...
boreoff - I usually love Sarah Harding but that dress is just a bit too much... maybe without the stripes and a lot shorter it would be better, the neckline is actually pretty flattering.
Stoli - I didn't like what Florence wore to the Brits but love what she wore to the NMEs - it projects her quirky and fun personality.
delovelylou - Blip...blip....blip....brrrrr....that’s the sound of GirIs Aloud crashing off the fashion radar....what IS Sarah doing in that dreadful granny burglar dress? It’s like a portable zebra crossing. And Nicola’s look is just confusing; is it a) short dungarees b) dominatrix-lite or c) cat’s cradle? Florence is clearly in training as the next Roisin Murphy, deliberately choosing unflattering pieces and then, annoyingly, making them work with sheer attitude...Little Boots, cute and sparkly, but now I know where that last roll of Xmas wrapping paper went. Peaches, casual and ladylike apart from the odd grey clunk-shoes. Ray Winstone’s country estate now has about 50 less crows – but Jaime’s eccentric mini-cape is kind of fun. Emilia is usually so beautifully dressed, but this brown’n’ black effort isn’t one of her best. And Alexa in vintage lace froth on simple black – if any of Girls Aloud wore this they’d make it look like a(nother) tacky French maid’s outfit, but on Alexa it's just elegant, Gallic, nonchalant.
silverstar - oh just look at Alexa, she makes me sick. Ive never seen her get it wrong. Bet she looks just as amazing when she puts that Trench on. So jealous! :-(
