Liela Moss: ‘Being Alexander McQueen's muse feels strange!'

23 February 2009

After turning Whisky Mist into an impromptu rock concert for the Twenty8Twelve after-party – and prompting Sienna Miller to throw out some serious dance moves – we caught up with lead singer of The Duke Spirit Liela Moss to chat all things fashwan. After all, this is the woman Alexander McQueen's adopted as his new muse for his McQ diffusion line for American discount store Target. So how did it come about? ‘Some of his design team had seen me at Glastonbury and told Alex about me,' she revealed. ‘So they spent days cutting up pictures of me for a mood board. I think they wanted someone who represented what the line's all about: originality and personality. But it's really weird being called a muse. He's done a T-shirt with my face on it, which I find really strange.' Liela was in New York for the McQ launch last week and found herself another fashion fan too. ‘Phillip Lim called me up and asked me to be in the front row! It was insane. He's got all my songs, even the really old ones, on his iPod. I love his stuff. It's just beautiful.' And what about the Savannah and Sienna Miller connection? ‘I've written some lyrics that will be found in the pockets of their new clothes.' She couldn't tell us what they say – guess we'll have to buy the collection for that - but we do know where she wrote them. ‘I was on a bus crossing the Louisiana border. I was knackered and I'd been on stage all night and the sun was coming up and to be honest I was just thinking about how I wanted to get laid!' Ooh er, Liela... Can't wait to read them!
