Nicholas Kirkwood spills on THOSE Rodarte boots

Nicholas Kirkwood Rodarte

Bumping into genius shoe designer Nicholas Kirkwood last night at the Browns Shoe Store opening he co-hosted with Mrs Burstein last night there was only one thing we wanted to know about: those Rodarte boots! The over-the-knee boots were so buzzed about during New York Fashion Week they almost distracted us the crowd from the amazing Rodarte bondage-style collection. So what's the back-story? ‘The Rodarte girls had a very clear image of what image they wanted to portray for the show and I reinterpreted that for the boots,' he told us. ‘They're almost like a straight-jacket for the leg. A whole outfit in themselves. It took two people to put them on backstage.' But don't let those impracticalities make you think the boots won't make it onto the Browns shelves some time soon. ‘We're thinking about putting them into production now. But we'll probably tame them down so they'll just be below the knee.' No doubt they'll go down well amongst the fashion crowd - the rows of Kirkwood shoes at Browns were being ogled over last night. His super-glamorous mum was there to support her son, wearing a vintage pair of Kirkwood shoes. ‘Of course I'm wearing his designs. But you can tell they're old by the tiny heel can't you?' she joked about her son - now famous for his sky-scraper heels. Talking of which, Nicholas told us he's off to Milan next to team up with Jonathan Saunders again for Pollini. He was keeping quiet about what we could expect - ‘I can't tell you anything!' - but they are sticking with the same format: three sessions of fifteen minutes each. So I guess we'll let you know when we see them...
