While the rest of Grazia started the day early at Kinder's show, some of us had a more leisurely start to the day with a visit to view Louise Gray's A/W '09 collection in the very relaxed setting of a drawing room in a private members club. We drank tea and chatted with Lulu Kennedy - the Director of Fashion East who is preparing for her show on Tuesday - and Louise who showed us through the colourful collection. This time she has concentrated on the whole wardrobe, rather than individual pieces and created a full collection, including bags and shoes by Nicolas Kirkwood (that boy is busy)...
Five things we loved
Thanks to Louise, velvet devore is not just the stuff of Christmas dances at primary school anymore. Black velvet dresses with devore painterly strokes in fire shades were brilliantly cool and the one on hot pink chiffon was a must-have.
The setting. Everyone lounged about in the drawing room, watching the show video, drinking tea, chatting about the night before and generally just being very friendly indeed.
The crazy mannequins created by artist Tony Hornecker. Traditional mannequins just wouldn't do her clothes justice.
Lulu Kennedy - always lovely to see her and she was beautifully showing off her support of Louise by wearing some of the collection. We also know what she has her eye on to buy too.
Louise was cool as a cucumber - this surely is the way to show collections, civilised, no pushing, a front row seat if you want one, hell, you can even touch the clothes if you want, and each piece is talked through by the designer themselves. Fashion's future please.
