By LFW standards, backstage at Topshop Unique was positively chilled. The production team had started at 8am (some of the sets had been built the night before) and - shock horror! - most of the models actually turned up on time... Hot new face from New York Dorathea, who had been booked to open and close the show over big shots Jourdan Dunn and Karlie Kloss, was snaking on Pret a Manger sandwiches. Jourdan - wearing a very model-off-duty black knit dress with quilted riding boots - and Karlie were catching up in the corner as they had their metallic make-up applied and hair twisted into alien-style mini grunge plaits. (Special note also must go to the gorgeous nail colour, created exclusively to match the coral dresses by LA Girl). We had a quick chat with Grazia favourite model Tabea, who told us she was doing six shoes before going to Paris and Milan but still didn't know which ones. ‘Everyone's going crazy there's no reception down here,' she told us. ‘I want to call my boyfriend but I can't and I have no idea what show I'm meant to be going to next without speaking to my agent!' LOVE Editor in Chief Katie Grand was styling the show along with her team (btw, what do you call the Popettes now they're at Conde Nast? Lovers?) but took time out to mingle front of house with the crowd snacking on smoked salmon and fish pie. It was in the final pre-show moments only everything went manic. Katie shouted out the girls' names army-sergeant style to get them in the line-up, before making a few final styling tweaks - pulling down jumpers, rearranging scarves - and pushing them onto the catwalk for an out-of-this-world Unique A/W '09 collection. Pictures and show report (including a senior fashion editor stared vacantly into space throughout the show...) coming very soon so check back here in an hour. In the meantime, have a look at what we snapped going on backstage below.
