Basso & Brooke: LFW sneak preview!

We've just been to see Chris Brooke and Bruno Basso in their house in Camberwell for the heads up on their A/W ‘09 collection showing at London Fashion Week on 21 February. Downstairs in the house is their living space. Upstairs is where Bruno creates his amazing graphic illustrations on a giant Mac computer. In the attic Chris Brooke works out the complex and clever patterns that make the graphic work come to life! And right here they talk us through the best bits of their A/W ‘09 collection.

INSPIRATIONS...

‘We have been inspired by the French Baroque Movement and Louis XIV. Louis 14th was all about the spiritual search for beauty.  Also Sevres and Limoges Porcelain (see pictures from the moodbood below). You just need to look at them to know you are seeing pure beauty.'

THIS IS WHAT WE DO...

‘We work with optical illusion to enhance the best features of a woman. So with our printed dresses we can create a bust, smaller waistline and even enhance the buttocks shape with our prints and fabrics! We don't want it to be ironic or quirky or subversive, we just want a beautiful image that pushes the boundaries of technology.'

FASHION PHILOSOPHY FOR A/W ‘09...

‘People get so trapped in the idea that wearing black is elegant. They think mixing more than two colours is psychedelic. People forget how wonderful colour is. We mix several.'

OUR CUSTOMER IS...

‘She lives all over the world, so we have moved outside the London designer thing. We are a global business selling in thirty countries. Italy, Greece, China, Japan, Brazil, Chile, Vietnam, Australia...'

OUR CUSTOMER WANTS...

‘The Basso & Brooke woman DEFINITELY doesn't want a winter wardrobe from us. She wants fabulous investment dresses and tailoring that she can wear for all seasons - so that is what we are doing. It's all about great sexy statement dresses and slim tailoring.'

THIS IS HOW WE DO IT...

‘We are working with Japanese machinery - it's the most advanced digital printer for fabric in the world. There is no wastage; so its eco too.'

GRAZIA LOVES...

The real fur photo prints, the trousers that give you a butt like Gisele Bundchen and the Stephen Jones powdered wig hats!

See you after the show!
