One to watch: Marcus Constable

11 February 2009

Sure, London Fashion Week's all about ogling what the big boys have been working on (Giles, Sir Paul Smith, we're talking about you...) but we like to give the new talent a chance to shine too. So welcome back to London Marcus Constable. We've loved his designs since his first show, sponsored by Topshop, way back in 2000 but, since then, he's been working at Claude Montana and done a stint at luxury Italian label Petra. So, we were very pleased to be able to pop down to the Mayfair hotel easier this week to get a sneak preview of his new A/W '09 capsule line. Full of geometric shapes and structured pleating, the collection evokes a loose, modern, tailored look. We love the trademark dolman sleeves anchored from the waist and the abstract twists of layered fabric. But our favourite pieces are the floor-length blue silk gown with fluted collar and a cute, short blue sleeveless dress with a sheer fabric underlay. Check them out below. Word on the street is that the line has already been snapped up by a major department store too. So watch this space...
