Morning round-up: Michelle Obama's Vogue cover revealed, plus who'll play her first in a movie?

11 February 2009

Finally! The confirmation the fashion world's been waiting for: Michelle Obama on the cover of US Vogue (March issue). For the cover shot by Annie Leibovitz she wears a magenta dress by Jason Wu while, inside, she's stuck to her usual sartorial choices: Narcisco Rodriguez and J Crew. ‘I'm not going to pretend that I don't care about it,' Michelle says of the criticism some of her fashion choices have attracted, specifically that Election Night dress. ‘Some will think that a sweater was horrible. I was cold; I needed that sweater!' [WWD]

Well, if Mrs O takes fashion criticism to heart, wonder how she'll feel about half of Hollywood speculating about who'll be first to play the First Lady on the big screen. Angela Bassett has apparently thrown her hat into the ring. Halle Berry's name is also being touted. [The Telegraph]

Back to the small screen for a moment. New York model Chanel Iman has filmed a guest appearance on Gossip Girl. She turns up at a party Serena throws. And actually eats. [NY Mag]

Plus another fashion show to set the Sky+ for: House of Style's comeback is confirmed! The remake of the ‘90s fashion show will be hosted by top model and Leo DiCaprio's other half, Bar Refaeli. [Blackbook]

Meanwhile, closer to home, Gwyneth clearly needs to keep closer tabs on her Oscar voting form. Her husband Chris Martin has revealed he's voted for Mickey Rourke as Best Actor after finding it lying around. [The Times]

And finally, the credit crunch takes down another catwalk. Halston is replacing its traditional catwalk show with a digital video version this NY Fashion Week. [WWD]
