Inès de la Fressange makes fashion history in Paris

29 January 2009

Kylie might have dropped in backstage to talk São Paolo with Jean Paul Gaultier but it was 52-year-old mother of two Inès de la Fressange who really stole the show yesterday. The one-time muse of Karl Lagerfeld took to the catwalk for the first time in almost 20 years for her good friend Jean Paul. And though the French national icon might have joked about her return to modelling – ‘I am not afraid to make a fool of myself' – and admitted to being nervous backstage – ‘surrounded by all those sexy young things' – she didn't show it sashaying down the catwalk. Cheered on by the crowd, Inès turned to wave to her old friends as Jean Paul, overcome with excitement, practically chased the model down the catwalk. ‘There are no age barriers to beauty,' he exclaimed later on. Inès's 14-year-old daughter Nine, who watched her mum prepare backstage with her little sister Violette, was also surprised. ‘The last time I saw her walking I must have been six. She's very excited but a bit nervous,' the budding actress revealed. But as huge a fashion moment as it was, it looks like we won't be seeing it on repeat. ‘For me it was like a Sunday,' Inès said. ‘This is not my job anymore.' [Wall Street Journal]
