Every few years, a brave designer tries to convince our chaps to slip into a skirt. Jean Paul Gaultier, Giorgio Armani and John Galliano have all tried and failed to shift this trend off the catwalk and on to the street. And womankind breathed a collective sigh of relief. (Except for Victoria Beckham, who'd probably coax David into a sarong by telling him that all the boys in the team would be wearing them tomorrow.)
But this time around, we're really scared. Because Yohji Yamamoto, Yves Saint Laurent and Alexander McQueen have all unveiled skirt-like shorts (or ‘skorts') in their menswear shows in Paris and Milan. And as if that wasn't bad enough, NYC's fashion golden boy Marc Jacobs has been sporting a skort at a series of high-profile events, from a Defiance premiere in NYC to a Louis Vuitton show in Paris.
Normally, we're all for equality of the sexes, but we're afraid this just doesn't extend to our wardrobes. What if your man looks better in a skirt than you? What do you think about the summer of the skort? Can you imagine talking your man through the minefields of VPL? Or are skorts destined to mysteriously disappear from male wardrobes thanks to their horrified womenfolk?
