Michelle O has already got some fashion copycats...

23 January 2009

Geez. You've got to hand it to the fashion industry. It doesn't miss a trick. Just hours after Michelle Obama stepped out in her inauguration outfits, seamstresses in America were busy cutting out white fabric flowers and sourcing lemongrass silk to recreate her iconic looks. ‘When we came to work this morning, we were already looking at fabrics, trimmings and detailing, and we started working on the patterns and putting the dress together,' said Omid Moradi, who runs New York-based Faviana, a company famous for reinterpreting gowns seen on celebrities. Yes, reinterpreting. It's an important distinction. Because Faviana's white one-shouldered dress won't be an exact replica of the First Lady's. Because Jason Wu – you know, the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund finalist – included too much gathering around the hip area. Somehow we think this one's going to run and run. And run. [NY Daily News]
