Kanye West's fashion designer debut

default

Believe it or not, Kanye West has long been etching himself a place in the fashion world. He's a regular Fashion Week attendee, where he's constantly mobbed by fans, waxes on about how he doesn't like to dress like all the other rap stars (thank the Lord, we can't take any more bling bling) and sparked that trend for the cutaway shades from hot Auzzie brand Ksubi. Now Kanye is stepping up to the mark and designing footwear at Louis Vuitton, hand in hand with new BFF, Vuitton's Creative Director, Marc Jacobs. ‘I think Kanye goes to the office more than I do,' Marc revealed to WWD of Kanye's dedication to the cause. ‘He's really, really into sneakers.' Um, yeah – he does have 400 pairs! So we can't really blame sneaker-freak blogs for being on 24/7 watch for the self-confessed ‘Louis Vuitton Don' to preview his line. It happened yesterday at the LV menswear show in Paris, when terracotta orange sci-fi trainers trotted down the catwalk. ‘Overwhelming,' was how West described his feelings at seeing his handiwork on the Vuitton runway to the LA Times. ‘I've wanted to be a fashion designer my entire life and to see my stuff in the Vuitton show was something else. It was a dream come true.' Bless! Who would have thought a multi-platinum-selling rap star could be that desperate to make it in the faswhan world? Mind you, with all things sporty on the fashion radar for S/S ‘09, we reckon the whole collection will fly off the shelves come June time...
