Kate Winslet leads fashion-tastic BAFTA nominations

15 January 2009

Brace yourselves for another weepy Kate Winslet speech. The actress has two nominations for best actress at next month's BAFTAs, for her performances in Revolutionary Road and The Reader. The BAFTA shortlist was announced this morning by Brideshead Revisited star Hayley Atwell and Gemma Arterton and, as you'd expect, the Brits are well represented amongst the nominees. Aside from Kate Winslet, Danny Boyle's Slumdog Millionaire is up for best film, best director and our new fashion crush Freida Pinto is also nominated for best supporting actress. Plus with Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt both nominated, does that mean the power-couple will make a pit-stop in London for the ceremony? Which takes us neatly onto who'll be wearing what on the red carpet at the Royal Opera House on 8 February. Because, let's be honest, it's pretty much just as important as the awards themselves. Escada is the official fashion sponsor of the BAFTAs and we've heard they're definitely dressing at least one big American star - no doubt, in one of their classic, luxe gowns. Meanwhile hair maestro Charles Worthington is in charge of hair on the big night, prepping the stars from an exclusive suite in the Dorchester. And Lancome are official make-up sponsors, all hand all night to touch up the winners as they come off stage all overcome. Handy, huh, Kate? Oh, we can barely wait. The Golden Globes might have only been last weekend, but we're already suffering red carpet withdrawal...
