Vera lives her skating dream

Fashion fact of the day: Vera Wang was once this-close to making it into the U.S Olympic figure skating team. Sadly for Wang she didn't, but lucky for us, she consequently followed her other dream for fashion (yay!). Her love for the ice continued and by combining her design skills, she created skating costumes for two-time Olympic medallist Michelle Kwan and silver medallist Nancy Kerrigan. Her work has now been recognised with an entrance into the U.S. Figure Skating Hall of Fame. And considering she started skating at only eight years old, we doubt there's anyone who could make lycra, jewels and that fleshy coloured net look so show-stopping. She tells WWD of the impact the glamorous sport has had on her life - "Skating was a chance for me to express myself in a creative way. It was the blend of all worlds - music, dance, athletics, choreography and, of course, costumes. From an early age, I really fell in love with what a body could look like, what it could do, what you could express and how you could look."
