May we make a 2009 prediction? Thank you...It was touched on by Karl Lagerfeld when he did his Paris-Moscow pre-fall collection for Chanel at the beginning of December. What are we on about? Well the Russian/Byzantium thing - we're talking Russian inspirations including the Ballets Russes, Faberge eggs, Byzantine jewellery, the onion shaped domes of Red Square and Slavic folklore. All this, we predict will be a key theme for designers for the Autumn/Winter 2009 shows which kick off in February. But we don't know it just because Karl has done it - oh no. London is currently playing host to some incredible exhibitions. Notably Byzantium 330-1453 at the Royal Academy of Arts. But top of the inspiraton list for all visiting international and local fashion designers (who have all been thru from Armani and Dolce to Sophia Kokosalaki) is the V&A's Magnificence of the Tsars, an exhibition which features more than 40 ceremonial outfits, many of which have never been exhibited before. We're excited - designer fashion in 2009 is going to get a whole new look and we can't wait for the opulence!
