Hot sale alert: Richard Nicoll

01 January 2009

It's not just hip young Londoners like Ben Grimes and Sophie Ellis-Bextor that love Richard Nicoll's sharp, chic designs - we do to! That's why we decided to share the exciting news that some of his collection has just hit invitation-only at a discount of up to 70%! So if you haven't already become a member of Cocosa - a private members club on the net selling designer fashion at jaw-dropping prices, now's your chance. Just enter grazia1 at registration. But even though you'll have to hurry - each sale only lasts 48 hours and stock goes super fast - spare a moment to get to know Mr Nicoll. He's really rather lovely. And it is New Year's Day after all. What could better fill your time than 60 seconds with Richard...

Happy New Year, Richard! So what are your new year's resolutions?
Oh you know, the usual. Get fit...

What are your tips for remaining stylish during the cold winter?
I'd have to say for me it's staying inside.

You're originally from Australia. Why did you decide to come to London to study and work?
Because it completely made sense for me. And I love it.

How would you define your fashion signature?
I think it's really accessible.

What fabrics/colours/silhouettes are you excited about at the moment?
Oh that would be telling...

If you hadn't become a fashion designer, what would you be?
A pilot. Long story...

Aside from fashion what inspires you?
I can't live without music, books and art.

What is your most prized possession?
Honestly, I don't have one...

What's next on your shopping wish list?
Scarily, it's a new flat.

What are you reading? What movies you are watching?
I'm currently reading a cultural overview of the 1990s called The Nineties by Michael Bracewell and I've been watching early 1960s Rita Tushingham films such as A Taste of Honey.

What has been your biggest fashion disaster?
Ugh, cringe. I once split my suit trousers at the Swarovski Fashion Rocks after-party. That was pretty embarrassing.

How would you describe your own personal style?
I'd say it's focused.

Who is the person you are designing for?
My loyal customer.

Who are your style icons from the past and/or present?
David Byrne, Morrissey and Nick Cave.

Which of your contemporaries do you admire and why?
I adore Jonathan Saunders, Roksanda Ilincic and Christopher Kane for their courage.

What exciting Richard Nicoll news should we be expecting in the new year?
I'm hoping for an investor. And, of course, continued happiness.
