Wow what a year it's been! 2008 may go down in history as the year the British credit finally crunched, but looking back on a lighter note  - it's been an amazing year in fashion. From the highs and the lows to the historic moments, here's what we'll get nostalgic about come 2009....

January: Kate Moss celebrates her big 30 with a 34-hour party marathon, scoring top marks as the first celeb to be seen wearing Chanel’s star print jumpsuit.

February: Following the death of Tung Le, 17, who was the sixth youngster in the UK to be fatally stabbed in just six weeks, Grazia teams up with hip designers including Katharine Hamnett to launch their Lives not Knives campaign available on www.matchesfashion.com.

March: Carla Bruni secures her name as the French first lady of fashion, when she wows Londoners with a super chic (mostly Dior) wardrobe while on her first official visit to the UK.

April: Katie Holmes ups sticks to Broadway to begin rehearsing for her Broadway debut in Arthur Miller’s All my Sons, and shows that her best buddy Victoria Beckham isn’t the only stylista around. Katie Holmes proves that denim doesn’t have to be boring, by making them her number one wardrobe staple, while daughter Suri becomes the number one accessory!

May: Having kept us on the edge of our seats for months over rumours whether Carrie Bradshaw would ever marry Big, Sex in the City: The Movie is finally released. From the Vivienne Westwood wedding gown to her iconic Dior sandals – we were obsessed with SATC fashion!

June: Gwyneth begins her 2008 fashion marathon by showcasing her newly toned body in a series of Balmain, Antonio Berardi, Giles…oh the list is endless!

July: Following his retirement in 2002, Yves Saint Laurent, the man that invented ‘Le Smoking’ and dressed the world’s most beautiful women from Catherine Deneuve to Carla Bruni, dies at the age of 71, leaving the fashion world in mourning.

August: The X Factor auditions begin and so does our obsession with newly appointed judge, Cheryl Cole’s wardrobe!

September: Victoria Beckham takes Manhattan with a new ‘Pixie’ cropped hair-do and showcases her first ever collection of dresses to New York journalists and fashion buyers. After selling out before they even hit the shop floor of Selfridges in Manchester and London – let’s just say that they were somewhat of a success! Oh and we just could not forget the Prada SS09 catwalk show in Milan. The extreme heels debate begins as Miuccia Prada sends the models down the runway in sky-high heels and slippery socks, that sees many of them crash to the floor!

October: The Supers make their return as the fashion world welcomed back Claudia Schiffer, Naomi Campbell, Linda Evangelista and Christy Turlington as they became the faces of YSL, Prada, Escada and Chanel!

November: Michelle Obama becomes the American first lady of fashion. With designers itching to dress her for the inaugural ball in January – is it just us or could Michelle be the next Jackie-O?!

December: As The X Factor enters its final weeks, Graziadaily.co.uk begins their Cheryl Cole dress watch, as each week she puts on a show of Luella, Kristian Aadvenik, Matthew Williamson or Julien McDonald proportions!
