Just landed: M.I.A's clothing range

17 December 2008

There's hardly an A-lister musician, actress or model left out there who hasn't taken their creative hand to an own clothing range or two! Sometimes these are so watered down you wouldn't even know who designed them but luckily for us, music superstar British Grammy Award winning M.I.A (best known for her rap tune Galang) has produced a truly M.I.A collection. It comes as no surprise when you learn that in the past she has been a prominent graphic design artist in the UK, even nominated for the Alternative Turner Prize - oh, and starred in those amazing Marc Jacobs ads. So put all of these skills together and what have you got? A range of brightly clashing coloured hoodies, leggings and vests in pixelated Islamic, Mexican and African prints that don't just whisper her style but shout it from the rooftops! M.I.A is said to have been inspired to create this range - which has just become available to ship to the UK here - whilst recording a short film about an Albino Caribbean boy Okley Leslie (some of the pieces are named after him). We love this President Tee, that looks like a young Anna Wintour (or is that just us?). So whether you want to channel a head to toe the M.I.A aesthetic complete with the Mexico bodysuit (only for the brave!) or whether the pair of Afrika print leggings will just jazz up some more sober items in your wardrobe, we reckon this is one celebrity fashion line that won't be easily forgotten.... (Jessica Simpson, anyone?)
