Matthew Williamson didn't need to be so nervous. Up against Giles Deacon and Stella McCartney, Matthew Williamson scopped the Red Carpet Designer 2008 at the British Fashion Awards. Manchester born Matthew Williamson has been a red carpet wonder-man for over 10 years now after showing his debut collection ‘Electric Angels' back in 1997. Before Williamson went solo, he designed freelance for Marni and also designed for Monsoon and Accessorize too. 2004 was a great year for Williamson, winning Elle Designer of the Year and opening his first flagship store on Bruton Street in London. With a following that includes Kate Moss, Helena Christensen, Diane Kruger, Jade Jagger and now more recently Cheryl Cole you'll have no doubt seen countless embellished, sexy and vibrant gowns stalking the red carpet.. Celebrating a decade in design, Matthew recently exhibited a retrospective of work at the Design Museum in London. Since 2002 Williamson has shown in New York and in between designing fabulous runway fashion he also has a diffusion collection at Debenhams called ‘Butterfly' and also takes his eye for colour and print into product design and home furnishings too. And he's just announced a new collaboration with H&M, his range for the global chain debuts April 23 2009. Check out just some of the A-listers he's dressed this year.
