LIVE at the British Fashion Awards

18.39: It's the biggest night in the UK fashion calendar: The British Fashion Awards 2008. And as media partners, Team Grazia are here reporting live from the big night using our fabulous MAC Book Pro (thanks, Apple!). Will Jourdan Dunn steal Agyness's Model of the Year crown? Who'll emerge as fashion's newest talents? What will we overhear in the smoking area? And where will we end up as the night comes to an end? Stay glued to this screen as we bring you the fashion live as it happens.

18:41: The guests have started to arrive at Lawrence Hall. The red carpet is sprinkled with Swarvoski crystals. Brit model Jade Parfitt is one of the first to arrive wearing an amazing red Giles dress. She's working tonight but looking forward to sneaking in a glass of champagne too!

19:01: Nicholas Kirkwood - aka. the nominee for Emerging Award, Accessories - has just come backstage with Grazia! He's hoping 'tonight will be his proudest fashion moment' but he's admitted he's just a touch nervous. Oh, and keeping with the theme of all things British tonight, should he find himself on a desert island far away from home he'd want to have a cuppa tea to remind him of good old Blighty. Bless!

19:05: Christopher Kane has just dropped by!!! Looking very dapper in a velvet tux, you can't beat this man when it comes to style!

19:06: Mariella Frostrup (tonight's host!) is looking remarkably calm as she struts down the red carpet.

19:07: Richard Nicoll meanwhile is having a little chat to Roksnada Illincic.

19:08: Bizarre moment....Anastia made a special appearance!

19:09: OH MY LORD - Kate Moss's P.A Fifi has just arrived, does that mean La Moss is en route to surprise us all?

19:10: Giles Deacon and Katie Grand plus their crew have just walked past looking rather fabulous.

19:11: We love Swarovski (one of this evening's sponsors) but their snazzy little crystals all over the red carpet are proving to be a bit tricky. Watch out ladies wearing killer heels! (oh, that's everyone then...)

19:12: Spotted - sibling design duo Felder and Felder showing sisterly love and taking a red carpet stroll hand in hand

19:13: Hello to Roland Mouret who has just popped by all suited and booted to have a little photograph, followed by sensationally dressed Yasmin Le Bon. We want her... everything!

19:16: Red carpet mayhem as everyone arrives on mass. Paps going wild - it's a fashionista frenzy!

19:18: L'Wren Scott and Stephen Jones (mutual favourite designers) have just arrived on the scene. They are most probably the couple of the evening! L'Wren is wearing a amazing gold dress and a fabby Jones creation atop her head too.

19:21: Would you Adam and Eve it the A-listers (who are no strangers the flash of the pap cameras) are actually overwhelmed by all the attention! Just strut your stuff people!

19:22: Bizarre but true - the Strictly Come Dancing crew have arrived and stolen the red carpet limelight! Move over fashionistas!

19:26: Luella's just stopped by looking amazing in one of her own super cute purple skirt suits (love the bows!) And she's divulged to Grazia she's delighted to be her with her lovely boyfriend for the evening - a rarity for the super busy working mum.

19:27: Jefferson Hack is in the building...!

19:28: Fashion Journalist extraordinaire Suzy Menkes is giving the photographers a run for their money and papping freestyle on her digital camera. Wish we could see those up on facebook later!

19:29: Alexa Chung, ever the Luella girl, is chatting to the designer in the foyer. She's just swung on her Harley Davidson leather jacket over what looks like a vintage dress. The friend she's brought along for the ride looks a little bemused by the media scrum.

19:30: Erin O'Connor - who is presenting Stephen Jones with his Outstanding Achievement Award tonight - is wearing an amazing full length gown with pirate-shaped-net hat. Stephen's we're guessing!

19:32: Slight panic. Erin's having her picture taken in the backstage Grazia area but they've just announced over the tanoy that dinner is being served. Eeek!

19:34: Sophie Ellis Bextor is in the building. Her make-up is flawless. Rimmel, perhaps? Must be the London look! Though, we're not too sure about those white tights. Saying that, we want her to turn around so we can see if they're the Chanel two-tones!

19:36: Ah, we love Sophie even more now! She's just helped a fashionista by tucking in a label that was hanging out of their dress. Oops!

19:37: Jourdan is HERE!!!!!! The photographers are going crazy. She is so beautiful. And tall. She's also the first nominee for Model of the Year Award to arrive. Will she take it home with her? We'll know soon.

19:40: Twiggy's just arrived. Wonder if she'll chat to Jourdan who's hanging out in the foyer looking a little shy.

19:41: Mrs Burnstein from Browns is backstage in Team Grazia area. She looks divine in a LBD. And who is the Grande Dame of fashion supporting tonight? Gareth Pugh. Fingers crossed!

19:43: Wow! You'll never guess what fashion moment's just happened right in front of our eyes! Twiggy and Jourdan almost bumped heads backstage in the Grazia area. Two generations collide. PS - Twiggy's with her daughter, who works for Stella McCartney. Both look impeccable. Must be the genes.

19:47: Fashion credits heads-up for Jourdan. Yet to identify the dress but the model of the moment has nabbed the accessories Team Grazia adore: Gucci studded shoes and an Anya box clutch.

19:48: Looks like the cocktails are going down a storm. They've just had to order some loads more.

19:50: Eeek, another of Kate Moss's posse has arrived - hair stylist superstar James Brown. Surely that means the woman's on her way...

19:52: Is this the final flurry of arrivals? Matthew Williamson - up for Red Carpet Designer of the Year - has just stepped on to the Swarvoski black carpet. Just behind him is Sadie Frost.

19:53: Oooh, Tamara Mellon and Christian Slater have just come backstage to have their photograph taken by Team Grazia. They're getting a little raunchy. It's hot. They're planning to spend Christmas in Mexico they tell us. And even more exciting, Tamara's a fan of X Factor. She's planning to send Diana Vickers shoes. Lucky girl!

19:55: Matthew Williamson's dropped by to have his photo taken too and there's more X Factor gossip buzzing around backstage. Cheryl's his new favourite fashion friend, he tells us. But he's worried about his tie. It's falling too short apparently. We don't think so, Matthew! And we're loving the gold shoes.

19:57: Looks like velvet's the fabric of the night. Roisin Murphy's the last to arrive and she's rocking a green velvet number. So that makes three - Matthew Williamson and Christopher Kane too. And in Grazia-land three's a trend!

20:00: Phew! Arrivals are over. The photographers are packing up and the A-listers are moving into the dining room to sit down for dinner.

20:02: Oh, just before she sits down to eat Roisin's popped in to have her photo taken - and she's dying for a glass of champagne! One in hand, she posed in an amazing feather hat, telling us she was sorry to be so late but her house is a mess because she hasn't been there so it took her ages to get ready.

20:05: The dining room's amazing. Tables are all back and decorated with Swarvoski crystals scattered around and Swarvoski cuffs as napkin rings. It's prawn cocktail to start, lamb for main (how British!) and The Ivy's famous frozen berries with hot white chocolate sauce. Rose wine too. Yummy.

21.31: Sorry for the absence. Been tucking in. And it's delicious. Also been spying on Pixie Geldof and Alice Dellal who have been popping out for regular cigarette breaks much to the photographers delight. But the awards are about to start. Hurrah!

21:43: The acrobats have catapulted through the dining room, Mariella's done her intro - complete with a The Devil Wears Asda joke - and Claudia Schiffer and Jefferson Hack are on stage to award this year's Swarvoski Emerging Talent Awards.

21:46: The nominees for the Emerging Talent Award for Ready-to-Wear are Danielle Scutt, Felder Felder and Louise Goldin. And the award goes to.... Louise Goldin! She's the woman who's made knitwear totally hot, but on stage she seems totally overwhelmed.

21:49: Next up, the award for Emerging Talent Accessories. Who's in the running? Anna Vince, Charlotte Olympia and Nicholas Kirkwood. And the winner is..... one of Grazia's favourite shoe guru's Nicholas Kirkwood!

21:50: BTW, the music the winners are coming onto stage to is Fratelli's Chelsea, Chelsea. It's got everyone humming along.

21:52: And now we're moving swiftly on to Designer Brand of the Year. Paul Smith, Agent Provocateur and Jimmy Choo. The shoes emerge triumphant as Tamara Mellon takes her place on stage to collect her award.

21:58: Now it's the Isabella Blow Award for Fashion Creator. Tim Walker, Terry Jones and Pat McGrath are all nominated. And the winner is esteemed photographer Tim Walker.

22:00: The awards are coming thick and fast. Red Carpet Designer is up next. Stella McCartney, Giles Deacon and Matthew Williamson all in the running. We love all their dresses - and the A-listers they make look fabulous for nights like this. But who'll walk away with the top prize? Ah, it's Matthew. And he looks so chuffed. For a man who was ridiculously nervous earlier, he just can't stop smiling.

22:04: Wow, maybe it's the champagne fuelled haze but we're struggling to keep up. Now we're finding out who's the new model of the year. Agyness Deyn's nominated (and won last year of course), Lily Donaldson and Jourdan Dunn. Eeeeekk, this is one we're really excited about. And the award goes to the woman who's really had a stellar year: Jourdan. She is so shocked. Can't stop crying on stage. And saying thanks. 'My mum would like me to say I'm going to buy her a mansion but she's just going to have to accept this speech instead! I'm just going to give a typically model response and just say thank you to everyone.' We love!

22:15: Slight hiatus. Everyone backlogged backstage. Claudia, Sophie Ellis Bextor, Louise Goldin recovering from her shock with a glass of champagne. But Richard James won the Bespoke Award.

22:16:  And now we're on to Accessory Designer. Up for this Jonathan Kelsey, Rupert Sanderson and Lara Bohinc. No rest for the wicked as they say. Roisin Murphy's presenting the award and it goes to.... Rupert Sanderson. Wow, first Nicholas Kirkwood, then Tamara Mellon and now Rupert Sanderson. It's the night of shoes!

22:21: One of our favourite beauty moments of the night. Matthew Williamson's just come to our backstage area to be interviewed by Grazia TV. And he's brought his own blotting paper to mop his brow. Genius!

22:24: This is the BIGGIE!!! It's Designer of the Year. We've been guessing ALL day about who this would go to at this year's British Fashion Awards. And the winner is Luella Bartley. Amazing.

22:27: Eeek! The acrobats are back, somersaulting down the aisles. They're a little bit Big Bird. And a little bit awesome. We're not really sure which. You'll have to watch the footage tomorrow to see what you think.

22:43: Backstage mayhem. Again. I know we keep saying this but it's true. Luella literally can't stop smiling as she walks the winners carpet. Erin's not fair behind on the arm of Stephen Jones. He's been given the Outstanding Achievement award tonight. And though he told us in this week's Grazia he couldn't quite believe he was old enough to win it, he's made himself a hat shaped like a crown.

22:52: Blimey! What a night. An A-lister's collapsed on the floor of the loos. Mariella Frostrup's taken off her shoes. And we're off to bed. Oh, ok we might hit the after-party for a bit. Only to deliver you even MORE British Fashion Awards behind the scenes gossip in the morning. It's a tough job. But someone has to do it.

08:53, Wednesday: No, don't worry. We haven't been up all night. But reading through this haze of commentary to remind ourselves of the best bits from last time (somehow, it all seems a bit of a blur), we're reminded we totally missed the Menswear Designer of the Year award. Duh. Must have been the drama backstage when Katie Grand, Giles Deacon, Gareth Pugh, Henry Holland and Alice Dellal dropped by for a love-in. Oh, and to steal our champagne after it'd been cleaned out in the dining room. Anyway, the winner was Christopher Bailey for Burberry. The man himself wasn't there in person to receive his award (in Spain working apparently) but his new protegee George was there to collect it on his behalf. More of that later...
