What will Michelle Obama wear for the US election showdown?

03 November 2008

She's already dressed Michelle Obama for the major steps along the presidential campaign, so it's no surprise Chicago designer Maria Pinto is hoping to stay in fashion favour on Tuesday night. The potential first lady has a Maria Pinto coral-red crepe sheath dress with three-quarter length sleeves, an empire waist and a high neckline with a burst of sunray pleats emanating from the collar hanging in her closet and the designer's hoping she'll dig it out for the finale of the American elections. No surprise really, when you think images flashed worldwide of Michelle in that purple shift dress and Alia belt (see that and other Pinto outfits below) has increased Pinto's retail orders by 45% and seen her status rise from a local fashion designer to a name who Barneys and SAKS are hoping to get on board. And what would she dress Michelle in for the Inaugural Day ball should Barack win? ‘Something bright in colour, with some movement,' she revealed. Sounds good - but somehow we think she'll have some competition from the rest of the fashion world! [WSJ]
