The secret shoe designer speaks – about London style!

03 November 2008

Grazia girls have long been obsessed with shoe designer extraordinaire Alejandro Ingelmo after we fell in lust with the aptly named ‘Terminator' heel - a black platformed thick strapped stiletto with bullet details. Seriously foxy shoes. And it turns out Alejandro may just love us back! ‘I adore London girls' said Alejandro as Grazia chatted with him at the spooky Halloween S/S ‘09 press day at Harvey Nichols. ‘They just know fashion and how to add an edge to their outfits.' So the American designer was very pleased to see Victoria Beckham, Agyness Deyn and Daisy Lowe rocking his shoes. And what's his take on the vertiginous heels debate? Alejandro never goes higher than a 100mm heel, and if he does, a platform is brought in to balance out the difference (so no Prada tumble risk here)! But he insists flats can still look fabulous: ‘I design flats in the same way I do a heel and they aren't an after thought, because women can't constantly be in heels. Anyway, a flat can look cooler with the right outfit.' The thing that enthralled us the most - apart from the lovely Alejandro? The new collection of course! He's ventured into pastel shades of blue and pink bandals (boot-sandals) with bullet detailing on the sling-back, meaning the shoe's front view is nice and ladylike and then, bam, turn around the high heel and bullets are killer!
