Why do British stars get it so wrong on the red carpet?

default

The people at Vax must have been extremely busy yesterday as not one, but two, red carpets were rolled out in London town -- for the Royal Premiere of Quantum of Nonsense and the good ol' National TV Awards. And along with all that dyed shagpile, came the first ladies of British entertainment and their party dresses. And what dresses they were. Now, we really don't want to be mean here but, but are we the only ones wondering why Brit stars seem pre-programmed to lose all our fashwan sense the second a flashbulb, a C-list guestlist and an event featuring Bruce Forsythe/Dame Judi/the ginger one from My Family combine? Over at Bond, the usually flawless Elle McPherson appeared to be taking cleavage tips from Liz Hurley. It was a similar sitch at the TV Awards. Denise VO, along with every woman in Hollyoaks, made the decision to go backless (thereby guaranteeing a nice big solo flesh-showing shot in the next day's papers, while perfecting that coy, look-I-may-play-a-husband-stealing-murderer-in-a-Chester-based-soap-but-a-bit-part-in-a-straight-to-video-Hollywood-project-WILL-BE-MINE). Dannii looked a little bit like she'd been eaten by her granny Minogue's curtains and Ferne, well, only you could go half-chicken/half-Strictly and still look cool (and you do). So do you think we need to try a bit harder at awards dos? No? Then just remind yourself what the Americans wore at the Emmys.
PS The TV Gold NTA moment? Nicolette Sheridan having to present the award for Most Popular Comedy Programme to the cast of Benidorm. We're sure if she could move the top part of her face she would have looked proper shocked and confused.
