Stylista - think: a US version of The Apprentice where contestants compete for a job as junior editor at Elle - debuted on American TV last night and already it's causing something of a hoo hah. Bloggers and the US press are accusing the programme of trying to hard to be a "low rent knock off of The Devil Wears Prada" instead of an actual insight into what goes on at a top fash mag. The main criticism? That Fashion news director Anne Slowey has "restyled herself from a reasonable person to someone more cold-hearted" just for effect - check out this clip of her giving the contestants a ticking off Suralan would be proud of to make up your mind. However, our favourite bit was when creative director Joe Zee rated the poor contestants' wardrobes. "We weren't mean to be mean," he said. "We were mean because we were being honest." Whatever, he's our new Miranda Priestly...
