Champagne and carnage: Backstage at PPQ

default

From the front row PPQ might have looked like the slickest show of LFW so far, but backstage - where we were hanging out taking pictures for your viewing and filming a video for with the lovely my-wardrobe.com TV team (coming v soon so watch this space!) - was a very different story. Models danced around snacking on M&S carrot sticks and melon before being virtually pushed into the line-up. They were styled up with turbans and huge hats at the last minute and tripped onto the catwalk in the patent platform heels. It was a family affair. Long-time PPQ collaborator Duffy did the ‘bun-style' hair, POP Magazine's Victoria Young styled the show after getting involved with design duo Amy Molyneux and Percy Parker at the very first stage of sketches. Pre-show Amy and Percy were somewhat distracted. ‘I've always been a girl of the ‘80s and our collections have referenced that but this year we're feeling ‘70s,' Amy told us in between taking pictures of the models in the line-up. ‘We went for boxy tops, wide-legged trousers and pastel colours. We also focussed on prints because it seems that's what people remember a collection by these days.' But what really stole the show were the accessories - huge jewelled bangles and Amy and Percy's favourite piece, the giant P-earrings. As the models scampered backstage to do quick changes everything went into chaos. Stains were removed with baby wipes, ‘Get in line Daisy...' the fixer shouted, and Amy and Percy just watched nervously. They didn't need to be. The show was a resounding success. London's bad-girl party set rushed backstage to congratulate the designers. First Alexa (and camera crew), then Peaches being her usual amorous self, Pixie rocking her new hair, Adele who seemed a little lost in the crowd, Henry Holland who was overheard saying ‘I'm not here, I'm supposed to be sewing buttons at the studio', Jodie Harsh getting some modelling tips and hip-hop guru Russell Simmons. Daisy Lowe left straight after the show in one of her mum's dresses, perhaps to avoid any questions about her break-up with Marc Ronson. But the rest stayed to pop champagne corks - one of which ended up in Amy's assistants eye. Yikes!  On the way out we spied the flowers decorating the doorway being unceremoniously dumped in the skip by PPQ fashion assistants. Who said fashion was glamorous ...
