Fashion stampede for Keira's premiere dress

12 September 2008

It's often said that the red carpet is as important as the runway for raising a designer's profile. Now here's proof. French couturier Alexis Mabille was little-known outside of the fashion elite until Keira Knightley stepped out in one of his bow-decorated dresses at the London premiere of The Duchess last week. She announced to reporters she loved Mabille's dress but was ‘bloody freezing', the flashbulbs popped and her picture - and his dress - was beamed around the world. Since then, there's been a sudden rush on the label in their only UK stockists, Selfridges. ‘There's been a real interest in Alexis Mabille,' an insider told us. ‘Particularly for the dresses with bow trims (below) and the sequinned tailoring (above right).' And whilst Keira might have made Mabille suddenly a high-profile name to watch, we're pretty sure the interest is also due to his interesting take on men's tailoring, which he manages to combine with a feminine twist. Other key pieces that have been popular at Selfridges include his fitted shirts with bow detailing and narrow sequinned trousers. Personally we love the crinkle shirt and jacket (below) too, but what do you think of new name, Alexis Mabille?
