UPDATE: New York Fashion Week latest

08 September 2008

Didn't make it to Bryant Park to see New York Fashion Week kick off this weekend? Don't worry. Just blame BA for losing your luggage and study hard this Grazia crib sheet of how to sound like you were at the shows (without succumbing to new-shoe blisters...) Don't say we never give you anything.

One-word fashion inspiration: sweat! Who knew it could be so sexy? Well, only when given the Alexander Wang treatment. The 24-year-old's show was the stand-out so far. Before strutting their stuff in Miami Art-Deco style colours (flamingo pinks and oranges), the models were sprayed with water and their eyes smeared with lip-gloss to make them look hot and sweaty. It worked. Even Anna Wintour (at her first ever Alexander Wang show) approved. She only checked her Blackberry once. It was the stand-out show. So far.

Meanwhile, the award for most star-studded front row goes to almost eponymous New Yorker Donna Karen. Nicole Richie, Winona Ryder and Christina Ricci (where has she been?) snuggled up at DKNY's first seated show for years. Well, that's one way to get bums on seats - quite literally.

It was a family affair at the Charlotte Ronson show. Mark spun the tunes (we loved his use of The Mystery Jets ‘Two Doors Down'), his girlfriend Daisy Lowe sashayed down the catwalk, Samantha and Lindsay provided the paparazzi fodder linking arms on the front row and we met yet another Ronson. (Who knew any more existed?) Younger sister Annabelle made her modelling debut.

Shock news! Mary-Kate Olsen can actually smile. Maybe because she was sitting next to Gossip Girl's Chace Crawford on the front row of the Rock and Republic show. That'd certainly make us grin.

Then just when we were wondering why Kelly O had crossed the ocean (let's hope she keeps her stamina up for nightly appearances next week it London) the Rag & Bone show started and it all became clear. Her boyfriend Luke Worrall, aka the male Agy, was walking for the best Brit show so far, inspired by the movie about Joy Division, Control.

Plus! High-street faithful GAP has some new surprises for Spring...

Coming soon.... 7pm: Michelle Obama's favourite new designer Thakoon; 10pm: Proenza Schouler; 2am: Marc Jacobs!
