Jaeger-LeCoultre £2.5million jewels unveiled

Wow - what a treat. On a whistle-stop 24-hour visit to the Venice Film Festival, we were the very first people in the world to see Jaeger-LeCoultre's brand new ‘Haute Joaillerie' set (that's haute couture jewellery to you and me), La Lierre. Jaeger-LeCoultre present laureates at ‘La Mostra' (as insiders endearingly call the festival) with a legendary reversible watch at the prize-giving - and take the opportunity to unveil a new collection of jewellery, each more dazzling than the last. This year didn't disappoint. The £2.5 million collection (necklace, ring, pair of earrings and cuff-style watch) is based on designs of ivy tendrils, set with a total of 14,000 breathtaking gemstones including yellow diamonds, yellow sapphires and emeralds and took 1,300 hours create. ... But in these credit crunch times, who on earth is buying this kind of bling? We found out later that evening at an intimate dinner hosted by Jaeger-LeCoultre and the house's muse Hollywood actress Diane Kruger - the rumour he was a Thai billionaire had bought it for his lucky wife!

The other talking point was Diane Kruger's exquisite Dior Couture dress, which she described as ‘some tight little number.' She accessorised it perfectly with a vintage style art-deco 101 Etrier watch from Jaeger-LeCoultre and her gorgeous but tardy actor boyfriend Joshua Jackson. (Apparently ‘Josh' was meant to fly in from New York to meet her on the Friday night but missed his flight by 4 minutes - meaning he joined her in Venice for literally 24 hours.) A bit like us. Oh, what a fashion moment...
